BOA - Bordeaux, Wine Country and Arcachon Itinerary

Day 1 - Bordeaux (France)

Board your ship at 6pmin Bordeaux. After settling into your cabin, there is a welcome cocktail reception and an introduction to the crew. After dinner, there is an evening of entertainment.

Day 2 - Bordeaux - Pauillac

We head down the River Garonne and then join the River Gironde, passing Cazeau Island and Patiras Island before arriving Pauillac. Built long ago by wine merchants or ship captains, Pauillac has managed to preserve the fine stone houses along its quaysides. Our first exciting optional excursion is a helicopter ride over the Medoc (must be booked in advance and subject to flight conditions). Our optional excursion this afternoon is to visit the Medoc (reservation in advance essential) - the renowned region where the most famous red wines in the world are cultivated, a strip of land squeezed between ocean and estuary with a mild, humid climate ideal for wine cultivation. We pass through most of the great Medoc appelations such as Saint Julien, Margaux, Haut-Medoc following the famous Chateaux Route and the chateaux of Lafite-Rothschild, Latour and Mouton Rothschild. Alternatively, take an optional tour visiting the Medoc through biking, wine and cheese. Remain in port overnight.

Day 3 - Pauillac - Gironde Estuary - Blaye

Early this morning begin cruising along the Gironde to the estuary. We pass the Meschers-sur-Gironde with its steep cliffs, Troglodyte houses and fishermens' huts, before arriving in Blaye. This superb acropolis was an ideal look-out post to watch for invaders and its fortress is the biggest attraction in Blaye. We set off on our optional excursion along the Corniche, or cliff route. Narrow and picturesque, the road snakes alongside the River Dordogne before reaching the Gironde Estuary. As we travel, we catch a glimpse of charming gardens, ancient fishermens' houses, remarkable dwelling places carved out of the heart of the cliff, not forgetting the famous carrelets, the unique fishermens' huts perched on wooden stilts on top of the water. The scenery here is an unusual combination of river, rocks and vines. An alternative optional excursion visits Blaye Citadel, built in the 17th-century. We return on board for dinner and moor for the night in Blaye.

Day 4 - Blaye - Libourne or Bourg - Saint Emilion

This morning enjoy breakfast as we head towards Libourne on the Dordogne, arriving early afternoon. After lunch on board, we set off by coach on our optional excursion to Saint-Emilion. We have a guided visit of the underground monuments of Saint-Emilion village as our guide introduces us to the history of the medieval city. We then visit an exceptional Troglodyte settlement, the cave of Emilion, and have a tasting to conclude our visit. We rejoin ship in Libourne at the end of the afternoon. After dinner on board we have an evening's entertainment provided by our crew before we moor for the night. Please note: Depending on docking availability, Libourne may be replaced by Bourg.

Day 5 - Libourne or Bourg - Cadillac

We have breakfast heading for Cadillac. Lunch on board. Arrive in Cadillac. This afternoon we have an optional guided visit to Chateau at Roquetaillade and Cadillac. The magnificent medieval chateau at Roquetaillade is a historic monument built during the 12th and 14th centuries. Its unique 19th century interiors are listed as part of France's historic heritage. We return to Cadillac. Located on the right bank of the Garonne, the Grailly family, the lords of Cadillac, established the walled town where the Dukes of Epernon then built their magnificent chateau. See the gates and ramparts, the central square with its arches, ancient houses and the church dating from the 15th century. A second optional excursion takes in the hills of Cadillac, passing Chateau des Ducs d'Epernon and exploring vineyard trails. We return on board for dinner. The rest of the evening is free. We moor for the night in Cadillac.

Day 6 - Cadillac - Bordeaux

We have breakfast and lunch on board today as we continue back to Bordeaux, where we arrive in the early afternoon. We set off by coach for an optional guided tour of the city, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. See the key sights and fine buildings on the banks of the River Garonne before visiting Old Bordeaux on foot. There is an alternative optional excursion - a bike tour taking in the UNESCO-listed sites of Bordeaux. We return on board for dinner and the rest of the evening is free.

Day 7 - Bordeaux

After breakfast on board, we set off on our optional excursion to the heart of Arcachon Bay (lunch included). Begin with a visit to the oyster farming museum in Larros Port. Continue to an oyster cabin where you can taste some oysters followed by lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, continue to Archachon for a tour of Arcachon Bay. During the trip, you'll see Bird Island and the Tchanque cabins on stilts, before heading to the Great Dune du Pilat. Return to the ship in Bordeaux.

Day 8 - Bordeaux

After breakfast on board, we disembark around 9am.
