More Spain River Cruises

This interesting cruise is a chance to see some of the best Andalucia has to offer. Explore Seville, Cadiz and Alcoutim on the Guadiana River, and choose from an excellent selection of optional excursions to historic towns and cities.

Seville is a leafy city full of stunning Moorish architecture - see the Alcazar Palace and its Andalucian Gardens, and the Torre del Oro on the Guadalquivir River. The gold dome of the cathedral dominates the skyline of Cadiz, the stepping off point for an optional visit to Jerez before sailing to Portuguese Alcoutim for a tour of Faro.

The next call is El Puerto de Santa Maria, where there is a 19th-century bullring and the fortified church of San Marcos, built inside the walls of an ancient mosque. Alternatively, there is the option to take an excursion to Gibraltar.

Return to Seville for two days of fascinating discoveries. Tours are offered to the magnificent Alhambra Palace, Granada, and to Cordoba and its impressive mosque-cathedral, a maze of 856 Moorish columns.

SXS - Andalucian Charms Itinerary

Day 1 - Seville (Spain)

Embark from 6pm and settle into your cabin. There will be a presentation by the crew and a welcome cocktail is followed by dinner on board. Free evening in Seville. Overnight stopover.

Day 2 - Seville

Today the focus is an optional tour of Cordoba, the City of the Caliphs. You will discover the mosque-cathedral, a forest of 856 columns adorned with jasper, granite and precious marble; and the Juderia, the former Jewish quarter of white lanes and courtyards.

Day 3 -

Breakfast on board followed by an optional guided tour of Seville. Art and enchantment have left their mark on Seville. Set off to explore the cathedral, the Alcazar Palace (closed on Mondays) and its Andalucian gardens, the Maria Luisa Park and the seductive district of Santa Cruz. Back on board around 1pm and cruise during lunch sailing on the great river. As we continue, you will discover unspoilt nature as we sail past Donana Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and Sanlucar de Barrameda. Arrival in Cadiz this evening. Dinner on board followed by an optional flamenco evening in Cadiz, dependent on availability. Overnight stopover.

Day 4 - Cadiz

In the morning there is an optional excursion to Jerez, capital of wine and horses, and the birthplace of flamenco song. You will enjoy a panoramic view of the Alcazar and the cathedral and visit a ganaderia. Return to the ship for lunch followed by an optional guided tour of Cadiz or an optional guided hike along the oceanfront to the Castle of San Sebastian followed by a tasting of local products.

Day 5 - Alcoutim (Portugal)

Enjoy breakfast as we cruise along the Guadiana River, sailing past fabulous landscapes. We arrive in the typical Algarve village of Alcoutim where there is free time before lunch on board. The ship then departs for Vila Real de St Antonio where there is an optional guided tour of Faro. Dinner on board tonight has a Portuguese theme followed by traditional entertainment. Set sail tonight for El Puerto de Santa Maria.

Day 6 - El Puerto de Santa Maria (Spain) - Isla Minima - Seville

Today there is an optional tour of the Osbourne cellar and tasting of local wines or alternatively join an optional hike in Sanlucar de Barrameda through the Donana National Park. This afternoon cruise to Isla Minima, passing the Donana National Park (a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site), and the city of Sanlucar de Barrameda. Tour a genuine Andalusian hacienda followed by an equestrian show. Return on board after and cruise through the night to Seville.

Day 7 - Seville

Today is entirely devoted to a visit to Granada. Set against the impressive mountain range of the Sierra Nevada, Granada was built on the slopes of the Albaicin, Sacromonte and Alhambra hills. The imposing city owes its prestige to its Arabic monuments, in particular to the Alhambra. We visit this, the genuine palace of 1001 nights and the Generalife, the former summer residence of the kings. After lunch in a local restaurant there is a little free time in Granada before returning to Seville and dinner on board. The crew provide an evening of entertainment.

Day 8 - Seville

Disembarkation after breakfast at around 9am.
